Route
Colombo → Sigiriya → Kandy → Nuwara Eliya → Ella → Arugam Bay → Udawalawe → Galle / Mirissa
Day 01 – Welcome to Sri Lanka
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport where you will be welcomed by your private chauffeur-guide before transferring to Colombo. Enjoy a relaxed evening at Galle Face Green with family-friendly street food, ocean views, and a spectacular sunset. Family Note: A relaxed arrival day suitable for guests of all ages. Overnight Stay: Cinnamon Red Colombo, Marino Beach Colombo, Radisson Hotel Colombo, or similar family-friendly city hotel.
Day 02 – Journey to the Cultural Triangle
Travel through Sri Lanka's scenic countryside towards Sigiriya with comfortable rest stops along the way. Upon arrival, settle into your family-friendly resort featuring spacious gardens, swimming pools, and plenty of open space for children to enjoy. Overnight Stay: Aliya Resort & Spa, Cinnamon Lodge Habarana, EKHO Sigiriya, or similar family-friendly resort.
Day 03 – Sigiriya Heritage & Village Experience
Begin the morning with a visit to the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress before exploring the magnificent Dambulla Cave Temple. Later, enjoy an authentic village experience including a bullock cart ride, farming activities, and a traditional Sri Lankan lunch. Age Note: Sigiriya Rock climb is recommended for children aged 6 years and above. Younger children may explore the landscaped gardens and museum instead. Day 04 – Kandy Cultural Heritage
Journey towards Kandy through beautiful countryside before visiting the sacred Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Complete the day with a leisurely walk around Kandy Lake or enjoy an optional Kandyan cultural dance performance. Day 05 – Gardens, Nature & Local Traditions
Spend the day exploring the Royal Botanic Gardens at Peradeniya with its spacious lawns, giant trees, and colourful orchids. Continue to a traditional spice garden before enjoying an optional tuk-tuk ride around scenic Kandy Lake. Overnight Stay: Amaya Hills, Earl's Regency, Cinnamon Citadel Kandy, or similar family-friendly resort.
Day 06 – Tea Country Discovery
Travel into Sri Lanka's cool hill country through waterfalls, forests, and emerald tea plantations. Visit a working tea estate and factory before spending the evening enjoying Gregory Lake with optional paddle boating or lakeside walks. Overnight Stay: Araliya Green Hills, Jetwing St. Andrew's, Galway Heights Hotel, or similar family-friendly mountain hotel.
Day 07 – Scenic Journey to Ella
Continue through Sri Lanka's spectacular mountain landscapes by private vehicle or board the famous scenic train from Nanu Oya to Ella (subject to ticket availability). Stop at Ravana Falls before settling into your mountain retreat and enjoying Ella's relaxed café culture. Day 08 – Ella Family Adventure
Visit the famous Nine Arches Bridge before enjoying the easy hike to Little Adam's Peak for panoramic views across the hill country. Families may also choose to experience the Flying Ravana Zipline or simply relax in Ella's cafés and scenic viewpoints. Age Note: Little Adam's Peak is recommended for children aged 5 years and above. Flying Ravana Zipline is generally suitable for guests aged 6 years and above, subject to operator height and weight restrictions. Day 09 – East Coast Beach Escape
Travel across changing landscapes towards the beautiful beaches of Arugam Bay, one of Sri Lanka's most popular family-friendly coastal destinations during the east coast season. Spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach, swimming in designated safe areas, or simply enjoying the laid-back coastal atmosphere. Best beach and surfing season: May–September. Overnight Stay: Jetwing Surf, The Spice Trail, Arugam Bay Roccos, or similar beachfront family resort.
Day 10 – Elephant Safari Adventure
After a relaxing morning by the beach, continue inland towards Udawalawe National Park. Enjoy an afternoon jeep safari through one of Sri Lanka's finest elephant habitats, offering excellent opportunities to observe elephants, buffalo, crocodiles, deer, and birdlife. Family Note: Safari is suitable for all ages in secure 4×4 safari vehicles. Overnight Stay: Grand Udawalawe Safari Resort, Kalu's Hideaway, Centauria Wild, or similar family-friendly safari lodge.
Day 11 – Southern Heritage Coast
Leave the wilderness behind as you travel towards Sri Lanka's southern coastline. Relax on the beaches of Mirissa or continue to the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort to explore its charming colonial streets, boutique cafés, and historic oceanfront ramparts before enjoying your final evening in Sri Lanka. Overnight Stay: Radisson Blu Galle, Le Grand Galle, Mandara Resort Mirissa, or similar family-friendly beachfront hotel.
Day 12 – Departure
Enjoy a leisurely morning by the beach or explore Galle Fort before visiting an optional turtle conservation centre at Kosgoda or Koggala. Afterwards, travel comfortably along the Southern Expressway to Bandaranaike International Airport for your onward departure.
